RuPaul is a man of his words—or make that, lyrics. When the singer and drag queen extraordinaire threw the inaugural Fashion Does Drag Ball at the McKittrick Hotel on Thursday night in New York, he brought new meaning to his hit 1992 anthem “Supermodel (You Better Work)” as he played a number of roles including host, DJ, and unofficial star of the dance floor. There was more than one reason to celebrate: The event served to benefit Planned Parenthood and furthermore, helped kick off RuPaul’s DragCon NYC, which made Marc Jacobs Beauty a natural sponsor for the monumental occasion. Indeed, RuPaul is studied in the art of transformation, as immortalized in his VH1 reality TV series, RuPaul’s Drag Race, and the same could be said for the always entertaining cast, many of whom were on hand to show their support, queen to queen.
